COMPLETELY REFURBISHED JAMES PURDEY SIDELOCK

EJECTOR GAME GUN WITH LATER SINGLE TRIGGER AND BEAVERTAIL FOREND. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 19709 (1910). The 28" bbls. have been invisibly sleeved. The original narrow swamped game rib is retained and is engraved with Purdey's Audley Street address and Whitworth steel information. Bbl. flats are stamped with original London nitro proofs, 2004 London reproofs for 2 3/4" chambers and "SLEEVED". Casehardened Beesley patent self-opening sidelock action features non automatic safety "SAFE" inlaid in gold, bushed strikers, raised rib tumbler end cocking indicators and a single selective trigger with rocker type selector similar to that found on Miller's trigger. (Internal inspection reveals that intercepting safety sears are retained. However, tails have been removed. Whoever installed this trigger knew what it was about, and safety sears still operate. Sear tails are widened and bottoms of interceptors lie on top of sears and will still block hammers if jarred off.) Action and lockplates are engraved with near full coverage large Germanic scrolling acanthus with stippled background. This scroll surrounds scenes of game birds on lockplates with 4 grouse flying on left lock and 2 woodcock on right. Bottom of action is engraved "J. PURDEY & SONS" "LONDON". Blued trigger guard with matching scroll has serial number on tang. What appears to be original straight buttstock of lightly figured and marbled European walnut measures 14 1/4" over brown leather covered pad. Stock features classic drop points, point pattern checkering and silver oval. Ejector forend with newly fashioned beavertail wood has Anson release tube nicely extended. Actioner's initials "FW" (Fred Williams) are on iron. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS.: Bore Diameter: R: .726", L: .726". Restrictions: R: .027" (MOD), L: .019" (MOD). Minimum Wall Thickness: R: .040", L: .040". STOCK: DAH: 2 3/16". DAC: 1 1/2". CAST: neutral. LOP: 14 1/4". WEIGHT: 7 lbs. 2 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in vintage tan leather Spanish type case lined in red cloth. CONDITION: fine as completely refurbished. Sleeved bbls. retaining nearly all of their black. Action and lockplates retain nearly all of an attractive recolor hardening. Bores are bright and shiny. Action is tight. Ejectors are strong and in time. Trigger does not work in L/R position. Works quite well when right bbl. is fired first. Case is good, handle is missing.
