Colt Pocket .31 caliber revolver, with Thuer style conversion for front loading metal cartridges. Thuer conversions were limited between 1869, and 1872, due to the overall unsuccessful nature of the concept, and the introduction of the Single Action Frontier Model in 1873. Serial number indicates manufacture in 1870. All serial numbers are matching. Conversion appears period, though has no Thuer or Colt patent markings, and may have been done by a private gunsmith. Conversion ring on cylinder, as well as notch for front loading, show age, marks, and patina consistent with the rest of the gun. Top of barrel has the standard one line New York address. The left side of the frame is stamped "COLTS / PATENT" and "31 CAL" on the left trigger guard shoulder. Original bluing mostly placed by a mellow grey patina. Traces of original silver finish remain on the brass trigger guard. Gun as handling marks, with some early impact markings from tapping on the wedge pin, and one loose left screw. The grips are in very good condition, with a good patina over handling wear, and a minor chip to top left near shoulder of trigger guard. Cylinder is firm, and hammer pull is smooth. All appears in good mechanical condition. Overall very good condition for the age. SN: 321510 Caliber: .31
