#1144 REVOLVER WITH COLT LETTER. Cal. 38 Spl. S# 349041. Bbl. 4" w/ Patridge profile front sight & rear square notch on frame. Left side of bbl. marked "NEW SERVICE 38 SPECIAL" w/ 1926 last patent date on top. Per factory letter, shipped Nov. 26, 1940 to Joseph Lorch in Washington, DC as sold to Chief Patrol Inspector of Immigration & Naturalization of McAllen, Texas; 53 guns in shipment. Colt order # 9368. Factory engraved "U.S.I.B.P." (on backstrap) w/ "No. 1144" on butt. Finish listed as blue w/ cal. of .38/c. Type of stocks Not Listed; presently has checkered brown plastic grips by Fitwell additionally marked "WARWY N - N.Y.". Of approx. 356,000 New Services mfg., about 1/3 were commercial, not military. Very limited production w/ 4" bbl. & 38 Spl. cal. plus unusual documented Government use. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Colt factory letter. CONDITION: although having near excellent bore, timing & grips, it has seen much use. Finish is original w/ extra application of Japan finish which is worn as well. Entire revolver w/ holster wear, high point wear, peppery oxidation & patina. Firing pin missing from hammer. Appearance of replacement recoil plate mounted below flush w/ frame & retained by 3 punch marks around perimeter. (20-932/NW). CURIO. $2,000-4,000.
