BELONGING TO JOHN DILLINGER. Cal. 45 LC. S# 59485. Previously sold in March 2013 Julia Auction stating (at the time) this was Dillinger's 'friend' that he always kept under his pillow at night; this info from accounts by apprehended members of Dillinger's gang. First recovered from cache of Dillinger gang firearms abandoned in Bensenville, IL just before Dillinger's death on July 22, 1934. This was taken from the hideout in its present condition. Very special firearm of a most notorious gangster from the prohibition era. Bbl. 7 1/2" having elevation adjustable Sheard style sight, 1905 last patent date & left side cal. marking. Mfg. 1913 & presently fitted w/ checkered walnut grips having scalloped borders & raised diamonds plus deep inset brass medallions. Flat top frame w/ windage screw adjustable sight blade. Early style checkered cyl. latch marked "K"; hammer, trigger & both grip straps also checkered. Crane matching numbered to frame. CONDITION: very good overall appearance as refinished having light marks throughout along w/ slight pitting on sides of frame under grips. Small spot of plating loss on right side of bbl. at muzzle plus bubbling finish on butt. Proper mechanical functioning & timing provided hammer pulled fully to rear beyond full cock notch. Very good grips having faint butt marks, small diamond top mark on right grip plus light hand wear throughout. All markings clearly readable w/ slight faintness. Very good to excellent bore w/ hint of wear & minimal areas of extremely fine pitting. Breech face is near excellent having unused appearance; light firing residue on cyl. face. (22-6022/NW).
