COLT ARTILLERY MODEL US SAA REVOLVER.

Cal. 45 Colt. S# 10717. Bbl. shortened to 5 1/2". After two decades of service, many Colt Cavalry Model revolvers were recalled for refurbishing after introduction of the 1892 Colt DA .38 caliber revolvers. Many of these have bbls. shortened to 5 1/2" & non matching S#'s. These revolvers have become known to collectors as Artillery Models as a reference to their use by artillery units in the Spanish-American War. Frame S# 10717 is stamped "US" on left side with "C" inspectors mark in hammer slot. Loading gate is marked no. 46. Trigger guard no. 132654 & backstrap no. 138777 have "K" inspectors initials. Bbl. is s# 6816 w/ "P" inspection mark on bottom. 6 Shot fluted cyl. is S# 7492 w/ "A" inspectors mark on side. 1 Piece walnut grip. Right panel has "RAC" cartouche referring to sub inspector Rinaldo A. Carr. Bottom of left panel has matching "RAC" inspectors initials. CONDITION: fine. Bbl. & cyl., retain over 80% lightly faded blue showing edge wear & drag line. Trigger guard & backstrap are fading to gray in carry areas. Frame & hammer retain 80% lightly visible case colors. Sanded & refinished grips show wear & handling marks w/ added wood repair at toe of left panel. Front of cyl. is gouged on the end of one chamber. Action is crisp & in time. Bore retains strong rifling showing scattered spots of pitting. (01-21422/DS). ANTIQUE. $5,000-7,000.
