According to the certificate, the firm owned 5 mines: Silver Crown, Giant King, Mountain Chief, Wonderful and Pride. The Silver Crown was 300 by 1,500 feet and “situated on the south side of Mineral Creek, three-fourths mile north-west of Mineral Point . . . [and] located in October, 1877.” The owners were “W. D. Laty, Ouray, and J. A. Gilmore, Rico.” The minerals were “vein in fissure, from ten to thirty inches wide, pay streak from five to fifteen inches, containing galena, gray copper, with native silver and silver glance, in a quartz gangue, milling, when sorted, fifty ounces silver per ton; developed by two tunnels twenty-two and forty feet long and one ten-foot open cut" [Ref: Corregan and Lingane, Colorado Mining Directory, p. 671, 1883]. The firm reported some native silver specimens in 1883 [Ref: Holabird, Alexandra Tillson Filer Collection, Part II: Colorado, Nevada, Montana, and the Hauser Collection of Anaconda Corporate Seals, p. 136, 2000].
