Lot of 4. 1. The Crown Mining Company. No. 142 issued to P. C. Regan by E. W. Lowrey as Secretary and John C. Fry as President on 30 May 1911. On white paper with a brown border. Vignette of miners working underground over the masthead. U/C. Excellent condition. 2. Mystery Gold Mining Co. no. 10312 issued to Edwin A. Bergner by M. W. Allen as Secretary and Warren C. Prosser as President on 20 October 1938. On crème paper with a black border, it has some stains. The vignette of miners working underground is to the left of the company masthead. There are vignettes of miners in all four corners of the border and on the left and right sides. The Mystery Mine was discovered in the Spring of 1884 about one mile up Maggie Gulch and located at about 11,000 feet on the shear face of a cliff on the south side of the gulch. It is above and due south of the Ruby Mine. In 1884 the development work consisted of about 200 feet in four levels and a 40 foot shaft. In September, October, and November of 1966, Hal Miller visited the mine with Tom Haddon of Silverton, who had driven a short drift in on the vein. The vein consists of pure white quartz with no visible metallics or sulfides. A mining width chip sample, however, assayed at 19.8 oz./ton. Haddon had a small crusher and pulverizer set up at the portal on a ledge far above the Ruby Mine. Warren Prosser who was president of this company in 1938 was a well known mining geologist who had his office in Silverton [Refs: Burchard, H., Production of Gold and Silver in the United States, 1884, p. 242-244; Howardsville Quadrangle, 7.5 min; Personal communications with Warren Prosser; The Hal Miller Files including Assay Books 1966, 1976 and 1977]. 3.
