Red Mountain Mining District. The district was active between 1882 and 1900 when the Yankee Girl, Guston, National Belle, Silver Bell, and Genesee mines were operative and the present ghost towns of Red Mountain and Ironton had populations of 400 to 500. The deposits were notable for rich silver-copper ores, which ran 50 to several hundred ounces of silver and 15 to 40 percent lead or copper. Estimates of total production from the district, at 19th Century prices, was about 20 million dollars [Ref: Guidebook of Southwestern San Juan Mountains, Colorado, New Mexico Geological Society, 1957; The Hal Miller Files]. No. 32 issued to Samuel T. Richards by R. R. Lowry as Secretary and O. D. Levas as President on 15 August 1884. Green colored paper with crème edges and a black border. No vignette. U/C.
