2. The Fryer Hill Gold Mining Company, Leadville Mining District. North of the established mines of Iron, Breece, and Carbonate Hills, lay an area that experts claimed was barren. One shipment of ore from the Matchless, under the supervision of Lou Leonard, ran 10,000 ounces per ton. The richest mine on Fryer Hill and close to the Matchless was the Robert E.
