Number 3537 issued to Susan Downen by L. A. Civill, Secretary, and F. H. Pettingell, President on 21 November for 1,000 shares. Written across the top with red pencil “No value charter expired March 11, 1913.” Excellent condition. U/C. Rare. The company, which formally incorporated in 1893, gained ownership of the Alsa R. and the Shandy through a sheriff’s sale. After gaining the two mines, the new owners paid off all the former owners’ debts plus improved the properties. The Alsa R. consisted of 5.082 acres and was situated in the “S. W. 1-4 section [of] 20, on Raven [Hill].” The Shandy consisted of a mere 1 acre “in the N. E. 1-4 section [of] 20, on Bull [Hill].” The Alsa’s claim was patented by the new owners, but the Shandy’s claim was not and only held its claim “by location.” Improvements made to the properties included a “50-foot shaft on the Shandy, with 42 feet of drifting, and about 500 feet of shafts, tunnels and winzes on the Alsa R. Before the new owners took over the Alsa R. had been severely neglected [Ref: Hills, Fred, Official Manual of the Cripple Creek District, Colorado, p. 207, 1900].
