Lot of 2. 1. The Golden Dale Mining and Milling Co. In 1900 this company owned the Alsa R., containing 5.082 acres, in the S.W. one-quarter section 20, on Raven Hill, and the Shandy, one acre, in the N.E. one-quarter section 20, on Bull Hill. The Alsa R. claim was patented and the Shandy was held by location. There was a fifty foot shaft on the Shandy, with 42 feet of drifting, and about 500 feet of shafts, tunnels and winzes on the Alsa R. In 1893, the company was a hopeless wreck. The present management redeemed the property from a sheriff’s sale, made good on an over issue of one half million shares of stock made by predecessors, by an increase in capital, paid several thousand dollars debt, and patented the Alsa R., which was nearly lost through neglect [Ref: Hills, Fred, The 0fficial Manual, Cripple Creek District, Colorado, p. 207, 1900]. This stock is on crème paper with a gold border. It has a vignette of miners working underground over the company masthead. Number 3541 issued to Susan Downen by L. A. Civill, Secretary, and F. H. Petingell, President on 21 November 1899 for 1,000 shares. Written in red on the top border “no value charter expired March 11, 1913. Folds are visible. Excellent condition.

2. The Grace Gold Mining and Milling Company. This company owned the Grace and Special, about five acres, in the N. W. one-quarter Sec. 30 on Raven Hill; an extra five acres in the N.E. one-quarter Sec. 31, South of Squaw Mt.; also the Polar Star, ten acres in the S. E. one-quarter Sec. 35 on Grouse Mt. In 1900, a shaft 200 feet deep with 250 feet of drifting was located on the Special claim. Considerable low grade ore was in sight [Refs: Hills, Fred, The Official Manual Cripple Creek District, 1900; Lindgren, W., and F. Ransome, “Gold Deposits of Cripple Creek, Colorado,” USGS Prof. Paper 54, 1906]. Number 2966 issued to Mrs. L. Francis by S. J. Mattocks, Secretary, and W. R. Foley, President on 14 May 1902 for 1,000 shares. Also signed by the registrar of the Colorado Title and Trust Co. on 15 May 1902. On crème paper with an orange border, the vignette of miners working underground is over the masthead. U/C. Minor wrinkling. Good condition.
