Lot of 3 from the same company. 1. The Orphan Bell Mining and Milling from 1893, number 190, issued to H. E. Bassett by D. H. Imler (?) as Secretary, and T. S. Hunter as President on 14 August for 700 shares. On crème paper with a black border that has jokers’ faces in all four corners. Signed by Bassett and W. Crane, witness, on reverse. Stamped cancelled in several places. Vignette is of miners working underground over the company masthead. Some wrinkling. Good condition. This company was incorporated in 1892 with F. B. Gibson as president and treasurer and J.F. Sanger as vice president and secretary. The properties owned in 1900 were two sections of the Phoenix containing 0.864 acre. This company formerly owned the Orphan No. I and 2 and the Ida Bell Nos. I and 2 from which a large amount of ore was produced; but in 1899 these claims were sold to two companies: The Orphan Gold Mining Co. and the Arrow Gold Mining Company. In 1900 The Orphan Bell Mining and Milling Co. went into liquidation. Gross production to January 1, 1900 was about 17,000 oz. gold [Ref: Hills, Fred, The Official Manual, Cripple Creek District, Colorado, p. 368, 1900]. Has a hand drawn map of the claim that goes with this stock.

2. The Orphan Bell Mining and Milling Company stock certificate number 78 was issued to Alfred Reichard by D. H. Imler and A. J. Jones, President on 8 January 1894 for 1,000 shares. It is the very same stock as described above. Signed on reverse by Reichard and C. W. Brick, witness. Cancelled. Excellent condition.

3. The Orphan Gold Mining Company certificate number 1067 issued to Wm. A. Otis and Co., Trustees by C. E. Titus, Secretary by Raymond Sargeant, Attorney in fact, and R. B. Stewart, Vice President on 25 July 1900 for 1,000 shares. Signed on reverse by Wm. A. Otis. On crème paper with a green border. Vignettes of flowers in the upper two corners of the border. Vignette of a mill and mine over the company masthead. Yellowing and a few wrinkles. Cancelled. Good condition. This is the company that took over after The Orphan Bell Mining and Milling Co. was liquidated in 1900. It owned the Ida Bell Nos. 1 and 2, and the Orphan Nos. 1 and 2, containing in all 12 acres situated in the N. E. one-quarter Sect. 20 on Bull Hill. By 1900, between 10,000 and 15,000 feet of work in shafts and drifts was completed [Ref: Hills, Fred, The Official Manual of the Cripple Creek District, Colorado, 1900].
