Lot of 3. 1. The Equity Creede Mining Company. The Equity Mine is on West Willow Creek about 7 miles west of Creede. The rock is primarily rhyolite and quartz latite. About 50 feet above the level of West Willow Creek a drift 725 ft. long was driven in the Campbell Mountain rhyolite. At about 715 feet from the portal drifts were driven to the north and south on a seam of sulfide ore which carried considerable gold. The seam width was I to 3 inches. The drift to the north cut the principal deposit, a fractured zone from 10 to 20 ft. wide about 30 ft. north of the drift. In the I970s Homestake Mining Company spent millions sinking an inclined shaft on the property for rubber tired cars but never produced any ore due to the incompetence of the mine manager [Ref: Emmons and Larsen, “Geology and Ore Deposit of the Creede District, Colorado,” USGS Bulletin 718, 1923; Foley, “Mineralogy, Mineral Chemistry and Paragenesis of the Gold, Silver and Base Metal Ores of the North Amethyst Vein,” USGS Prof. Paper 1537, 1993; The Hal Miller Files]. No. 551 issued to Thomas J. Downen by Bruce E. Watkins as Secretary and [illegible] as President. Typed on the reverse in red, “Thomas J. Downen, 410 N. Santa Fe Ave. December 18, 1917.” Written in red pencil on the stock “no value charter expired April 17, 1921.” Vignette of miners using a pneumatic drill underground. Crème colored paper with a green border. The folds are beginning to tear. Good condition.

2. Mammoth Tunnel Mines & Milling Company. The Mammoth Mine is on Mammoth Mountain about 3000 ft. east of North Creede. Its elevation is 10,350 ft. Above sea level, and it is about 1,400 ft. above East Willow Creek. A tunnel was driven about 325 ft, southeast in a zone of crushed rhyolite and a winze 50 ft. deep was sunk at the portal. The gouge carries about 10 oz. of silver to the ton. The minerals are amethyst quartz, barite, cerargyrite, azurite, and native silver. The Mammoth Tunnel is on East Willow Creek. It was driven about 2,500 ft. above its junction with West Willow Creek. The tunnel was first designed to cut the Mammoth vein, but the breast is probably farther from the vein than the portal. The Homestake Lode, which crops out on Mammoth Mountain about 11,700 ft. above the level of the tunnel, if its westward dip persists should be encountered in this tunnel, but it has not been identified [Ref: Emmons and Larsen, “Geology and Ore Deposits of the Creede District, Colorado,” USGS Bull. 718, 1923; The Hal Miller Files including reports and maps]. No. 594 issued to Chas. N. Alexander by A. J. Chapin as Secretary and Chas. W. Karr as President. Signed on the reverse on 14 July 1915 by the “Estate of Charles N. Alexander by William H. Alexander, Administrator and A. Olive Sinclair, Notary Public.” Three vignettes, two of miners working underground and the third of mountains. U/C. Crème paper with a gold border. Two vignettes of miners in the upper left and right corners of the border. Excellent condition.

3. The United Mines Company of Colorado. Carl Swift did not include a history with this particular stock. This stock is number 509 issued to Buell S. Rogers by Charles G. Rose as Secretary and Samuel S. Parks as President on 10 October 1896. Crème paper with a black border that has vignettes at each corner and on the left and right sides of miners. Another vignette is of miners working underground. Not cancelU/Ct condition.
