<B>CLASSIC RHODOCHROSITE</B></I><BR><BR> <I>Celebration Pocket, Fluorite Raise, Sweet Home Mine, Alma District, Park County, Colorado</B></I><BR>Like bright-pink chunks of watermelon candy, the myriad crystals of rhodochrosite on this plate, blaze with colors not usually seen in gemstones, much less mineral specimens. Five razor sharp rhombs of approximately ¾ of an inch in size are nestled among countless others on the surface of a plate of dark massive tetrahedrite ore. Minor needle-like quartz crystals sprout from various locations on the piece, while an occasional pyrite crystal provides a brassy, metallic counterpoint. There is some minor damage to a crystal on one edge and a few 'nicks', otherwise the condition is fine. The piece bears a collection number of 71-02-01-20 from the Collection of Steve & Beverly Rice as well as a label to that effect.
