American nurse and humanitarian who tended the wounded in the Civil War; founder of American National Red Cross; awarded the Iron Cross of Germany for her efforts during the Franco-Prussian War. Holiday pamphlet entitled “Christmas Greetings,” 6pp, 12mo, ca. Dec 1909, a National First Aid Association of America imprint bound with red string. Boldly signed beneath her photograph on frontispiece, adding “<i>Very Sincerely Yours</i>.” Barton sends “<i>Greetings to Friends of the Olden days and the New.</i>..” and reports that even in her 88th year, this old Civil War nurse’s “<i>heart is still open to the welfare and the woes of the world, and the hand-grasp ready for a friend.</i>..“ Back cover of wrap is unevenly toned; o/w Fine.</span></p>
