After the city had been abandoned...J.A. Reynold Chief of Artillery and I each took some and sent them home.... PLUS an elaborate brass chamber stick with German silver fig leaf base; PLUS a clipped seal from the State of South Carolina; PLUS a religious tract "Enoch" (Nashville, 1850), with ink inscribed flyleaf "W Allingdon, Springfield, OH, Chaplain, 94th OVI to Lt. Mickle" and later pencilled inscription "Read by me on Oct 27th, '64 just fourteen years after it's delivery -- how grand! Wm. Mickle." First dilapidated, stick and seal fine, last with tape repair in gutter of front board.
