(CIVIL WAR SOLDIER`S LETTER)
"A great content soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo. Martinsburg, June 2, 1864, by Pvt. Amos Bowman 160th Ohio Volunteers, in part: ""àWe reached Newtown on Sunday eveningàthe next morning we had a fight with the rebs. The cavalry were attacked and our regiment went to help them with our company and company A and F. We fired into them killing three on the spot. The total amount of killed were eight on the rebs side. We had but one wounded and that was Tom Jackson. He was out on the battlefield without a gun. He was not with any companyàtwo rebs rode up to him and asked him if he was a Jonny Reb and he said no. The reb shot him three times in the thighs, but struck no bones. It is thought he will recoveràI suppose you have heard of the death of our dear brother who fell on the battlefield near Chancellorsville. He was a good boyà"". Amos was the brother of Melancthon Bowman who was killed during the battle of the Wilderness. Slight staining, else very good." 2343 A great content soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo.
