CIVIL WAR PERIOD 44 CAL RIFLE
CIVIL WAR PERIOD 44 CAL RIFLE. Half Stock Percussion Rifle. 30" Octagon barrel is 45 caliber and has a rusty bore that should clean up quite a bit. Metal surfaces have extensive surface rust and pitting. The barrel has a small blade front sight, a dovetailed V notch rear and a folding rectangular "lollipop" sight mounted on the barrel tang. The wood stock has some slivers missing near the left side barrel and an old crack on the flat opposite the lock. The top of the barrel is marked "Brunner St. Louis" in two lines. Joseph Brunner was a general gunsmith and dealer around 1845. This rifle would benefit from a complete cleaning. The hammer only stays back when the rear trigger is set.
Estimated Value$400 - 600.
