CIVIL WAR MEDICAL DEPARTMENT SURGEON'S KIT. Mahogany encased surgeon's kit with oval brass inset on lid engraved " U.S. A. Medical Department" in flowing script. Case 17 x 6.5 x 4.5" containing three trays of surgical implements in fitted red felt-lined trays. Kit contains a total of 31 saws, scalpels, knives, trephining, probes and other tools, with slots for a total of 14 missing tools. Three of the 31 do not match slots in any of the trays. Most marked "Snowden Philadelphia." With the exception of the missing implements, untouched and generally VG-EXC.
