CIVIL WAR LOT ASSOCIATED WITH MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER HENRI LeFEVRE BROWN, SURGEON, COMPANY B, 76TH REGIMENT, NEW YORK VOLUNTEERS OF JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK. This large and diversified lot came from the James T. Anderson estate; he was a member of Company B, 76th Regiment, New York Volunteers. Included is a late 19th Century photograph of Henri Brown, Medal of Honor winner SIZE: 7-1/4" x 5-1/4", for the 72nd Regiment. The photo depicts Brown wearing both his Medal of Honor and Corps badge. There is also an image of James Marvin Young, who was a Private in Company B, 72nd Regiment who was also a Medal of Honor winner. Both won their Medals of Honor in the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6, 1864. Included in this lot is the very Corps badge illustrated in Brown’s photo; a silver diamond-shaped badge with gold symbol on front and blue enamel letters “B, 72, NYV". Also accompanying this lot is the history of the 3rd Regiment, compiled by Brown and printed in 1902. Also included is a group of Munper & Company Gettysburg battlefield photographs, five in all; two are larger, 8" x 5", one of which depicts the “Devil’s Den", the other a large tree in which a cannonball is embedded. The three smaller photos 6-1/2" x 4" each, depict various dead soldiers on the Gettysburg battlefield, one including what is probably the photographer’s wagon. Also accompanying this lot is an additional lot of approximately 38 cabinet-size card photo-views of various members of the 72nd Regiment, most measure 6-3/4" x 4-1/2", most are from Fenton & Andruss Studio of Jamestown, New York. These are post Civil War images and in some cases, reprints of Civil War period images; some are autographed, all are identified. Also included in this lot is a small 7" x 5", period 36-star flag. The note attached indicates that this belonged to James T. Anderson of the 72nd Regiment. Also included is another group of four Union badges for various reunions of the 72nd, including 1897, 1898, 1900 and 1901 together with a miniature 2-1/2" x 2" 36-star flag. Also included is a gold-colored medal with an image of Lincoln on one side and inscribed on the reverse, “The Civil War 1861-1865". A great historical lot with a wealth of both information and images of this unit. CONDITION: All items in generally very good or better condition. The photographs have some fading and yellowing and the smallest of flags has a number of small moth holes. 4-49192
