Cal. 44. S# 6948. This rifle was made mid-1864, at height of Henry's demand among soldiers who could afford the most modern repeating rifle of its day with 15 shot capacity. Standard configuration, 24" octagonal barrel stamped "HENRYS PATENT. OCT. 16, 1860" / "MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT." & serial number "6684", integral magazine tube, pivoting muzzle section for loading, folding long range rear sight, and German silver blade front sight. Matching S# 6684 observed on barrel, frame tang, stock, and buttplate. CONDITION: good overall, complete and original with exception of replaced lever latch, iron is dark with pitting, markings all discernible, brass frame & buttplate have mottled dark mustard patina with scattered small dings & scratches. The rear sight is not Henry but is original to this rifle's use. Stock has been refinished with heavy varnish. Mechanics are fine, dark rifled bore. (01-26796/JS). ANTIQUE. $6,000-8,000.
