CIVIL WAR ERA ROGERS & SPENCER REVOLVER LOW SERIAL
Civil War era Rogers & Spencer Army percussion revolver. Manufactured from 1863 to 1865 in Willowvale, New York for the US Army. Marked across top above cylinder "ROGERS & SPENCER / UTICA N-Y". Serial number 947, all matching on bottom of back strap, cylinder, under barrel, loading lever, cylinder and the left side of the frame. "B" inspection mark stamped on the barrel, loading lever, cylinder, frame, and trigger guard. No cartouche or inside serial numbers on grips, Grips appear probably an early replacement, possibly from a civilian model. Bore is remarkably good and clean for the age, with crisply defined lands and grooves. Finish has been re-blued, with some original pits seen underneath, but newer finish retaining about 90% coverage. Some chips and hand carved letters on bottom of grips, but no major damage or cracks. Cylinder is tight, with almost no play, and hammer cocks back with strong tight clicks. Overall good condition. Caliber: .44 Serial #: 947
