CIVIL WAR ERA KEPI WITH MISSISSIPPI SIDE BUTTON.
Cap has authenticity letter w/ photographs from Les Jensen written in 2013 describing: “Kepi, chasseur pattern, rather tall. The sides and top are made of a gray material with a cotton warp and woolen weft, tabby weave….The band [1.5"] is made of wool… very dark blue (almost black). The cap is 4" high in front, 6.5" tall in back in the top is 5.5" diameter… The band is stiffened with a varnished brown leather band…. Lined in the sides and top of the brown polished cotton, tabby weave… The visor is a black patent leather, the same kind of surface showing on both sides. There is a leather edging, machine sewn in place… Is reinforced by a dark blue material, tabby weave.. Conclusion: Based strictly on observation with the naked eye and a 10 power hand lens and experience in examining many Civil War and later kepis over roughly 30 years, it is my opinion that this kepi has the earmarks of a Civil War Confederate item.” UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Mr. Jensen’s 2 page letter & photographs.
