CIVIL WAR CDV OF UNION SUPPLIES AT RESACA, GEORGIA (UNPUBLISHED). Unpublished view by Schwing & Rud
CIVIL WAR CDV OF UNION SUPPLIES AT RESACA, GEORGIA (UNPUBLISHED). Unpublished view by "Schwing & Rudd" with a contemporary ink notation on verso that reads, " Resaca Depot after the Yankees captured it. Large piles of supplies are lying by the side of the RR. track covered with tarpaulins or canvas." Sherman captured Resaca on May 15, 1864 after a short fight with Johnston's retreating army and this rare photograph was taken shortly thereafter. The broad panoramic is rich in detail showing the twin lines of the Atlantic & Western railroad tracks bisecting the small depot with framed warehouse buildings on both sides and a whitewashed hotel at the far end. The smoke of army campfires curl over a haphazard tent encampment with a few military personnel busy cooking. The tops of Georgia pines recede into the distance. Near EXC with an irregular cut to the bottom of the albumen. Provenance: Mickle album.
