The Mansfield & Lamb scythe-shop manufactured scythes and later tools in Forestdale starting in 1824, and during the American Civil War manufactured only one kind of sabers for Union forces. The firm had seven contracts totaling over 37,458 M1860 sabers. The hallmark is an oval shaped stamp, clearly marked and dated 1865, C.E.W, the last year they made sabers. The sword was to be the grand prize in a Civil War Jubilee and includes 19 spent lead bullets, two otherwise and one musket ball. Condition is with out scabbard and has rust and some pitting marks, leather and twisted wire in good condition, as seen. 35'' blade.
