MORE. 1) CANTEEN. A regulation style smooth sided Yankee canteen w/ a faded blue cover. There is a red diamond w/ a central blue clover leaf painted in the center of the canteen. Upon the cloverleaf is written “40 / N.Y.V.”. Along the outside of the red diamond there is writing that appears to be the soldier’s name but the writing is somewhat illegible. Canteen is complete w/ stopper & chain & a partial suspension strap. The letter “M” is carved on the side of the pewter spout. CONDITION: canteen remains quite solid though a bit dirty. Painted center is worn but remains substantially clear. 2) BUGLE. Bugle measures approx. 11 3/4" w/ a bell diameter of 4 1/2". Mouthpiece screws into the bugle. The bell is dbl. walled. Bugle is wrapped w/ an interior pad surrounded by red bugle cords likely for mounted artillery. No markings are visible. CONDITION: brass has a pleasing deep mustard patina. Bell is a bit dented but substantially intact. Cords show light to moderate wear. 3) FLAG STAR. A framed star obviously torn from a flag, likely Confederate. Star measures approx. 5 3/4" from point to point. The star is dbl. edged hand sewn around the perimeter of the star. “Rebel GETTYSBURG PENNA JULY 3, 1863” is written in early brown ink upon the center of the star. Frame measures 9 1/2" square. CONDITION: star has discolored w/ age. The remains of the blue field are quite tattered. Writing is clear. 4) EPAULETTES. A pair of captain’s dress epaulettes in gold bullion w/ 2 sets of silver bullion captain’s bars on each paddle. Epaulettes have yellow cotton undersides w/ brass attachment bar. The epaulettes tie on to secure them to the shoulder. CONDITION: light wear overall. 5) EPAULETTES. A pair of dress epaulettes in gold bullion. Epaulettes have yellow silk undersides w/ a button loop attachment. Buttons on the top of the epaulettes are 23mm infantry officers buttons. CONDITION: epaulettes show moderate wear, however only approx. 30% of the underside padding is still present. (02-14443-1/BF). $1,000-1,600.
