MEMORIAL. This beautifully framed polychromatic soldier's memorial measures 33 1/2' x 25 1/2'. It memorializes the members of Company E of the 1st Regiment Maine Heavy Artillery. This was a very famous and lauded regiment from the great State of Maine that entered service in August of 1862 and served until September of 1865. At the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse the Regiment lost 6 officers and 76 men killed with a whopping 6 officers and 388 men wounded. Later, the Regiment suffered the single greatest loss of life of any Union Regiment during the entire war. The 1st Maine had 7 officers and 108 men killed with 25 officers and 464 men wounded out of a 900 man force. CONDITION: The memorial has vivid colors and displays superbly. Flame shows light wear.
