When the Ching government unified the Sinkiang area, both silver and copper coins could be used there, but mainly silver coins. After the silver coins became popular in Sinkiang, the silver sycees still could be used. The sycees were used to pay for tax or huge fiscal appropriation or soldiers' salary or large trading. Generally, the sycees would be cast into private type or official type. The official type always were for tax, and must weight 50 taels, and chopped with characters like address name, year, silversmith's name, weight and etc.
