1992 IDOC No. 10 Kilo Gold Compass Coin
NGC PF 69, actual mintage might be just 6, the rarest modern Chinese coin. No. 6 Compass kilo gold was sold in August of 2011 by Champion Auctions in Hong Kong for $1.298 million. It was the first kilo gold coin to surpass $1 million.
The compass was struck by Shenyang Mint, with Great Wall on its obverse side. Thereverse side is composed by Sinan, South Pointing Chariot and Compass designs. Sinan is the oldest direction indicator and South Pointing Chariot was towed by a horse (which is followed by the march) giving a sense of direction. The compass was evolved from Sinan and South Pointing Chariot, much easier to carry and with higher accuracy. The date on this coin was the year of invention of Sinan, so this coin was not to commemorateSinan, South Pointing Chariot or Compass, but to pay homage to the evolvement history of Compass.

1992 IDOC No. 10 Kilo Gold Seismograph Coin
NGC PF69, no auction results so far. Struck by Shenyang Mint.Paired with Compass as single lot.
The obverse side is also Great Wall while the reverse side features seismograph and Lingtai, south of Luoyang. The seismograph looks like a wine bottle with 8 driving gears inside. 8 dragons with copper balls in their mouths embrace the bottle. 8 toads are right down with their mouths opening. If an earthquake was happened, the ball will come out from the dragon’s mouth and falls right down into the mouth of toad. Then the location of the earthquake can be detected by the direction of the falling down ball. Lingtai is the place where the seismograph is located. The date on this coin is the year of invention of the seismograph.
