[CHILDREN OF THE BATTLEFIELD]: An extremely rare printed 1p. 12mo., [1863], a poignant six stanza poem entitled: "Written for the Philadelphia photographer. THE DEAD SOLDIER'S CHILDREN", in very small part: "...Tis a picture-children three...a parent's joy and pride...how died he?...ask the weeping children oft...by this little picture's aid. Their father's fate be known...". Minor toning with few margin tears not affecting text, else very good. Also, included is a nice war-date CDV showing the children of Sgt. Amos Humiston 154th N.Y.V. who was killed on the first day at Gettysburg. Published by Gutekunst, Philadelphia, this image was published in an effort to identify the body after the soldier had expired. Near fine. $300-500
