MERIT BREAST STAR & COMMANDER’S MEDAL BELONGING TO COLONEL WALTER PIERCE OF THE US ARMY ALONG WITH 4 OTHER DECORATIONS. 1) The first part of this group includes the Chief Commander of the Legion of Merit breast star along w/ a Commander of the Legion of Merit medal w/ neck ribbon. Both of these awards are red, blue, white & green enamel on a gold plated field. The reverse of the Chief Commander’s breast star reads, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 12C”. The reverse of the Commander’s medal reads, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ANNUIT . COEPTIS . MDCCLXXXII . “. Both of these awards, along w/ the subsequent group, belonged to Colonel Walter R. Pierce of the US Army. The group is accompanied by 4 award documents to Col. Pierce for various Legion of Merit awards. 1 Of which is signed by Commanding General of the Army, William Westmoreland. The 2 awards are accompanied by 7 ribbon bars & 2 lapel pins for the Legion of Merit award. CONDITION: the Commander’s medal shows little or no wear. The Chief Commander’s breast star has repairs to the enamel on some of the points of the star. (02-14931/BF). 2) The Legion of Merit medals are accompanied by 4 other medals belonging to Col. Pierce that include 1 Air Force Cross in folding blue simulated leather case accompanied by 3 Air Force Cross ribbon bars. / 1 Air Force Distinguished Service Medal in folding blue simulated leather case accompanied by 3 Air Force Distinguished Service Medal ribbon bars. / 2 Bronze Stars w/ a “V” for valor on the ribbon accompanied by 2 ribbon bars & 2 lapel pins.
