(CHEYENNE MEET COL. OELRICH, 1887)
A great 9 3/4" x 6 3/4" albumen photograph entitled "The Interview", showing Cheyenne Chiefs "Standing Elk", "Running Hog", and "Little Wolf" meeting with Col. Oelrich's at Oelrich, Dakota, July 4, 1887. A key identifies the subjects and gives photo credit to Grabill, Chicago in 1887. The Northern Cheyenne took part in the battle of Little Big Horn and the Indian men pictured here are probably those who were removed to the Indian Territory after the battle and who years later fled from relocation and settled in Montana. All the Indians are armed, but interestingly, one individual carries a peace-pipe. On heavy board mount, some slight soiling, else very good.
