(1885 - 1966) American admiral, Commander in Chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II and largely responsible for the successful "island-hopping" campaign against the Japanese. A.L.S. "C. W. Nimitz", 1p. 4to., Berkeley, CA, June 13, 1961. In part: "...Thank you for your letter of 8 June 1961 with enclosures describing the decication of the Memorial Chapel. I am - indeed - pleased to be quoted in your dedication ceremony. My hearty congratulations on the successful completion of this beautiful chapel......". Minor toning at margins, else very good.
