WILLIAM N. PORTER (1886-1973) American major general who headed the Army's Chemical Warfare Service during World War II. The general advocated the use of poison gas, especially against the Japanese, and also oversaw the development of chemical mortars, flame-throwers, and biological warfare agents. I.S.P. 10" x 13" b/w, a chest-up pose in uniform warmly inscribed to colleague Col. William Rodgers, 1945. Framed. Rodgers, a British officer, would later become embroiled in the release of information on the creation of VX nerve gas.
