Upon the deaths of his father and both grandfathers, his territory included the Spanish kingdoms of Aragón and Castile; the Netherlands; the Italian states of Naples, Sicily, and Sardinia; Spanish conquests in America and Africa; and the Habsburg lands. DS in Spanish as “<i>Carolus</i>,” Holy Roman Emperor, 1p on rag laid paper, small folio, Nov 1549. Untranslated. An imperial order authorizing the payment of a pension to the widow of Doctor Laredo. Boldly signed. Light toning at edges; show through of paper seal on verso at left margin; o/w in excellent condition. As secular head of the Catholic Church, the protector of the Pope, his reign was marked by religious conflict as Martin Luther initiated the Protestant Reformation in Germany. He summoned the Diet of Worms (1521) and the Council of Trent (1545-1563). He also was often at war with France and the Ottomans. Tiring of constant struggle, in 1558 Charles abdicated in favor of his brother Ferdinand I, retiring to a Spanish monastery.

11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped
immediately upon receipt of payment.

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
authenticity by expert authenticators acceptable
