In this rare view of his house, Hugo verified the framing and directed the operation; the camera was operated by either his son Charles-Victor or Auguste Vacquerie. Only three other views of this house are known, each unique; they reside in the collections of the MusTe d'Orsay and the Maison de Victor Hugo. This year marks the bicentennial of Victor Hugo's birth.
