The 1999-2000 tour included the Clarion Historical Society, Westmoreland Museum, Stroudsburg Historical Society, American Philatelic Museum, MGM grant Hotel in Las Vegas, Fairmont State College, NASA Classroom of the Future, Philadelphia’s 2000 GOP Convention Political Fest and the dedication of Patrick Henry College. Each is magnificently presented in custom framing, a worthy addition to any Revolutionary War or Colonial collection.</i></b><BR><BR></span><b><span style='font-size:14.0pt;font-family: Arial;color:windowtext;text-transform:uppercase'>Congress Orders Troops To The Frontier</span></b><span style='font-size:12.0pt; font-family:Arial;color:windowtext'><BR><BR>(1729-1824). Secretary of the Continental Congress (1774-89). Called “the Sam Adams of Philadelphia” by John Adams, Thomson was one of the first patriots active in colonial resistance to the British, exercising much influence owing to his ability and integrity. Printed broadside, approx 7½"x12" with Britannia watermark and countermark Crown G R, [Philadelphia], Oct 3, 1787. Boldly signed at conclusion, adding “Secy.” Congressional resolution to raise a corps of 700 troops from the states of Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania “to be stationed on the frontiers, to protect the settlers on the public lands from the depredations of the Indians, to facilitate the surveying and selling of the said lands, in order to reduce the public debt, and to prevent all unwarrantable intrusions thereon...” Congress apportions the required number of troops among the states and details their organization, subsistence, pay, etc. Light toning, especially at margins; o/w Fine. Handsomely matted beside quarter-length portrait of Thomson and descriptive plaque and contained under glass within attractive frame. Overall 21½"x19¼".</span></p>
