London, Printed by John Bill and Christopher Barker … , 166020-pages, folio, recent paper wraper, with "25 Octob:" added at end of imprint in a contemporary hand : a very good copy. Wing C 2997. Setting out his intentions on ecclesiastical matters, expanding and confirming the protestsnt nature of the established Church : "We need not protest the high affection and esteem We have for the Church of England as it is established by Law", but reminds subjects that "We published in Our Declarion from Breda a Liberty to tender Consciences, and that no man should be disquited or called in question for differences of opinion in matters of Religion, which do not disturb the peace of the Kingdom, and that We shall be ready to consent to such an Act of Parliament as upon mature deliberation shall be offered to Us, for the full granting that Indulgence." It provides further detail on the administration of the church and the role of the bishops and other officials. The liturgy (Book of Common Prayer) is to be revised by "an equal number of Learned Divines of both persuasions.”ALSO WITH THIS LOT: PILKINGTON ( Sir Thomas ), et al. The Tryal of Tho. Pilkington (d.1691), three times lord mayor of London, a staunch whig, distinguished himself in the city of London by his opposition to the Duke of York, was imprisoned for four years in consequence of rash speeches against the duke. The alleged riots fomented by Pilkington and Shute were made in part the ground for suspending the city's charter by the quo warranto of 1683.
