CHARLES DICKENS
(1812 - 1870) English novelist and the author of such classics as Oliver Twist, A Tale of Two Cities, and David Copperfield. A.L.S., 1p. 8vo., Gad's Hill, Apr. 28, 1865 to a man concerning membership issues in a society. In part: "...I do not think the point to which you call my attention is one coming within the province of a chairman at a Public Dinner. The principle is a very sound one, but always has to be considered with a reference to the number of members a Society is likely to be composed of , and also the steady annual amount of funds...your suggestion would be more appropriately addressed to the President of the Institution...". Slight uneven toning, else very good. With a carte de visite photo of the author by J. Gurney, New York as well as a cabinet photo, also by Gurney, but marred a bit by an ink ID at bottom. Three pieces.

Estimate: $750 - 1,000.
