CHARLES DALY HIGH-GRADE DRILLING. Cal. 12X12/appears to be 32-40 or a rimmed straight taper 8 mm of some sort. Made by J.P Sauer & Sohn in Prussia on a fine, top break, sidelock action with cocked indicators. It has 28” very fine pattern Damascus shotgun bbls with a steel rifle bbl, with double lump and double bite with Greener crossbolt. It has a flat, matted rib with caterpillar front sight and articulated bbl sight. The receiver and lockplates are case colored with extremely fine arabesque pattern engraving, about 70% coverage. The top tang has a thumb safety with concealed peep sight. It has side-cocking lever for the rifle bbl and the lockplates are marked “Manufacturer/For Charles Daly”. Wood is very highly figured, shell grain, French walnut with checkered splinter forearm, raised panels around the lockplates, with checkered bag shaped grip 14” over a serrated pressed horn buttplate. It has a fine case colored 4-hole toe trap that is matching engraved. SN 70170. CONDITION: Extremely fine, possibly unfired. The shotgun bbls retain 96-98% fine silver-blue original Damascus pattern. The rifle bbl retains 96-98% strong bright original blue. The receiver and lockplates retain most of their fine case colors turned silver on the top tang and the trigger guard retains about 95% bright blue. The toe trap retains about 95% bright case colors. Wood is sound and retains 96-98% strong bright original finish with a few mars around the heel and a couple of bruises on the left side. The bores are all bright and shiny.
