CENTRAL AMERICAN REPUBLIC: AV ½ escudo, 1847-C, KM-13.1, Fr-5, assayer JB, wonderful full strike, NGC graded MS63, R. The Central American Republic, otherwise known as the Federal Republic of Central America or the United Provinces of Central America, was born in 1821 from the independence of the territories formerly under the Guatemala Governorship of New Spain. The Republic consisted of the current states of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Honduras. Towards the end of its existence, conservatives were in conflict with those that wanted to secede, and eventually a civil war ensued, with the federation finally dissolving after a number of bloody events.
