CDVs of Two OVI Captains,<p>Benjamin and John Fowler, both of Co. D, 30th OVI. Both labelled in period ink on verso. Benjamin enlisted in Aug. 1861 as a Sgt., becoming Captain in Nov. 1864. Back of his cdv notes that Fowler "...was given sword for valor -- by General Sherman on 'March to the Sea.'" The handle of sword visible in photo. John also enlisted in Aug. 1861, but as a Captain, a rank he held until mustering out in 1864. The back of his cdv notes that John Fowler Senior (father of both of these men) was the first settler in Pike Twp. The 30th OVI organized in Columbus. Both cdv's have faint color on cheeks.<p>Both show scattered foxing, light soil, else very good.
