CDV OF LT. CHARLES AHREETS, 134TH NY (KIA SAVANNAH). No bm. Penned on verso is a marvelous inscription in the hand of his friend William Mickle that reads, "The late lamented Lieut. C.A. Ahreets 134th NYV & AAG 20th A.C. Killed before Savannah, Ga. Dec. 13th 1864. An amiable citizen in life at death (a) hero! Rest in Peace (in Latin). How sweet his memory still! W.H.M." Charles Ahreets rose from the ranks of Company A., 134th NY, becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in Company G. just before Gettysburg. He was wounded at Resaca on May 15th and killed seven months later. VG.
