CDV OF ARMED PRIVATE JOHN K. MESSMORE, 99TH OVI. Anonymous cartes of Messmore with period pencil identification on verso. Armed with a M1842 musket and full leather gear Messmore, of Company D., enlisted in June 1862 and transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps in October 1864 finally mustering out in June 1865. Raised in Lima, Ohio the 99th OVI marched to Perryville and was baptized by fire at Stones' River. The regiment participated in the Tullahoma campaign followed by Chickamauga, then Atlanta with the 23rd Corps. The cdv shows strong clarity (visible cartridge box stitching) and tones with moderate soiling and soft edges. GOOD.
