a pocket size album containing 20 cartes from the mid 1870s, most with Fox & Symons or C.W. Carter, Salt Lake City back marks. Fourteen of the cartes are current or former members of Company H. identified in bold red ink on verso, 8 in uniform and 6 in civilian dress. The infantrymen are: Lieutenant Albert Austin (formerly Lieut. Co. K. 11th CT, 2nd Lieut. 14th Inf. 8/9/67, 1st Lieut. 11/23/74, died in service 12/3/86); Pvt. Edward J. Conrad, Co. H.; 1st Sgt. John B. Mack, Co. H.; Band Leader William Clauss in civilian attire with family; Sgt. Edward L. Pitts in civilian attire with family; Pvt. John Rourke, late Co. H. in civilian clothes; Hospital Steward John Williams; Corp. Joseph Lavering (?) and family; Commissary Sgt. George Hall; Pvt. James L. Ward, late Co. H. in civilian dress; a second view of Sgt. Edward L. Pitts in uniform; Band Leader Charles Lander (?), 14th US Inf. in dress uniform; Sgt. Samuel Wilcox in civilian dress; Pvt. Jacob Keifer, Co. K., in civilian attire; and Commissary Sgt. H.P. Clare, “Fort Thomas, Arizona Territory” in civilian dress.

There is no published source for enlisted service records from the Indian War era, thus nothing is known of these men. The reorganized 14th Infantry served in Arizona immediately following the Civil War and earned four battle honors during the Indian Wars, campaigning in Arizona 1866, Wyoming 1874, Little Big Horn 1876, and the Bannock War 1878.
