CDV of WIA soldier George O'Brien of the 55th New York Infantry, Company B. Verso reads in pencil: ''John OBrien / Killed at the Battle of Fair Oakes / given to Miss OBrien when he was leaving for the war.'' O'Brien mustered into Company B on 27 January 1862 and was wounded in action at Fair Oaks, Virginia. He died of his wounds on 24 June 1862. The 55th New York saw action at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Seven Pines and Fredericksburg. Card measures 2.5'' x 4''. Some solarization and minor soiling, otherwise excellent.
