CDV of Lieutenant Joseph B. Downing of the 49th Pennsylvania Infantry, Company G. Verso reads in pencil: ''Yours Truly / J.B. 'Downing' / Lieut 49th P.V.'' Downing mustered into Company G on 15 August 1861. Downing was promoted and transferred to Captain for Gallant and Meritorious conduct at Petersburg and Little Sailors Creek. The 49th Pennsylvania saw action at Yorktown, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Petersburg and Opequan. Image measures 2.5'' x 4''. Some soiling and creasing at center. Very good.
