CDV of First Lieutenant George W. Nichols of the 24th Massachusetts Infantry, Company H. Card reads in pencil: ''George W. Nichols / 24 Mass.'' Verso reads in ink: ''Truly Yours / Geo. W. Nichols / 1st Lieut 24 Mass.'' Nichols suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was left for dead in the battlefield at Drewry's Bluff, Virginia. Nichols miraculously survived. The 24th Massachusetts saw action at Roanoke Island, New Berne, Tranter's Creek, Secessionville, Fort Wagner, Fort Darling and Petersburg. Measures 2.5'' x 4''. Fine condition.
