CDV of Captain Joseph Tharp of the 126th Illinois Infantry, Company K. Ink inscription to reverse reads, “Yours Truly / J.S. Tharp / Capt Co K 126 / Ill Infty Vol.” A resident of Mattoon, Illinois, Tharp enlisted as a 1st Lieutenant on 4 September 1862 and mustered out as a Captain on 12 July 1865 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The 126th Illinois saw action at DeVall's Bluff and Jacksonport. Image measures 2.5'' x 4'' and shows overall light wear and scattered soiling, else very good condition.
