CDV of Captain William H. Ransom of the 126th Illinois Infantry, Company H. Identified in ink to verso, “Wm H Ransom / Capt Co 'H' 126th Ills.” A resident of Coal Valley, Illinois, Ransom mustered into service as a Sergeant on 4 September 1862 and mustered out as a Captain on 12 July 1865 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The 126th Illinois saw action at DeVall's Bluff and Jacksonport. Image measures 2.5'' x 4'' and shows overall wear and scattered soiling, else good condition.
